LookTel Recognizer app for iPhone and iPad
LookTel Recognizer allows those persons having visual impairments or blindness to identify cans, packages, ID or credit cards, DVDs, and similar items. Customers can store images of objects in a library or database, and then point the iPhones camera at an object and the phone will recognize and describe the item instantly. A barcode scanner is included to provide additional labeling help.
LookTel Recognizer is powered by an evolution of NantWorks Internet of Thought™ data linking services in LookTels "Money Reader", an app that has helped thousands of customers with visual impairments or blindness to instantly identify and count more than 20 paper currencies. Like MoneyReader, Recognizer uses state-of-the-art recognition technology.
Recognition happens instantly, in real-time, without having to hold the camera still to capture a photo, then wait for a result. Recognizer can be used at any location, anytime, as the app needs no internet connection.
Recognizer provides customers backup support through export of the Library items via EMail, enabling the restoration of a database from lost or replaced devices. Sharing items with other members of the community is made easy via this email export.
Please note that people with severe visual impairments or blindness may require sighted assistance to initially create the image library. The image library must be setup before LookTel Recognizer can be used to identify objects.
How to use Recognizer:
Once the app is downloaded on your iOS device, you must create an image library before you can start recognizing items. Creating the library is easy, and can be fun, especially if you have a friend or family member who is a shutterbug. While it may seem to take a lot of time, it takes far less than most people imagine to create an excellent library of images. Once the library exists, less and less time is required of a sighted person, as you will find Recognizer can already identify most items that are used daily reliably and accurately every time.

I am sorry to see this company put out an app that still leaves blind people dependent on others to use the app. Not what I would have expected from them.
Many people say that this app is no good, however they are wrong. This app does exactly as advertised however you will need sighted assistance to get started at first people are knocking this app because of this one fact which is stupid, I had decided help when first using this app so, I really dont see what the big deal is. I know this app is very good and it trumps all other apps and barcode scanning, I love this app. The app does have its downfalls sometimes but, I overlook these overall, this is a good app and a must-have for every blind person, it will only get better
this app is simply amazing. the recognition system is magical, the future of all such apps. i am a totally blind person and i just made a data base of over seventy products all of which can now be instantly identified no problem. and apart from anything els just the barcode scanner is five times better then digit eyes and its a third of the cost. it would be better if this app had its own pre recorded data base of course but this is just the next step in the grand scheme of look tell.besides with each tag consisting of both audio and an image can you imagine how much memory would be taken up with endless tags that you will not personally need. this way you can only have the tags you need. besides if this app takes off whats to keep look tell from letting everyone send there tags to be used by all and the best ones can be added to the app. i find the apps claims of not being able to be fully useable by blind people to be incorrect, and think that they are scaring people away from this app when they really need to try it and let it become there favorite app too.
this is a great app and it dose well in the use of the barcode scanner.The price of $9.99 is far less then the one that cost over a grand. i have taken this to the store and scanned stuff as i put them into my cart.this can only get better, keep up the great work . love the money i d too.
Once again these developers have hit a home run! I am very impressed with this app. I have been able to use the barcode scanner to identify products and then create a better image which helped me better identify various products. I have created voice labels giving everything I could ever want about products I scan. This is one of those products every blind person whould have. Michael Hingson
